Planning to go to Puerto Princesa? Here is where nature begins and never ends.

The reason why we attended the event was to find an affordable airfare to Singapore for our January 2018 travel. Unfortunately, we haven't got any. Too bad! Never give up, keep looking.

Nonetheless, roaming around the entire real estate of the venue will allow you to find something. We were able to get a budget-friendly Manila Ocean Park deal for just Php 700/person which will allow you to visit 13 different attractions. It includes the Oceanarium; Musical Fountain Show; Sea Lion Show; Marine Life Habitat; Birds of Prey Kingdom; Trails to Antarctica, which include Slide O Fun, Penguin Exhibit and the Snow Village; All Star Bird Show; Jellies Exhibit; Penguin Talk Show; Fish Spa, and Sharks & Rays Dry Encounter. As of blogging, Metrodeal for 13 attractions to the said park is Php 950/person from Php 2,650. We've got the best buy already!

Going to Manila Ocean Park is not complete without staying in H2O Hotel. My husband and I booked an Aqua Room for only Php 2,999.00 instead of Php 13,420. The room features a huge aquarium on the wall with fishes of all colors, shapes and sizes. I am very excited to experience their marine-themed room, I can’t wait any longer.

Stay tune for our next blog. We will do some experiences and reviews on Manila Ocean Park and H2O Hotel soon.

The Day When The Sun and Moon Stood Still

The bible is God’s gift to mankind. It ought to be believed not to be debated.  The bible is the sole and ultimate authority of anything around us as it embodied entirely everything under heaven. Nowadays, as we are living in a digital era, God’s holy Word is still and will always be relevant to us today. I’ve bumped some interesting topics recently regarding ancient and modern astronomy. So I decided to write a blog about it in reference to what the scripture is saying and what I can personally observe around me. I was reminded of one historical account in the bible where there was a day when the sun and moon stood still. It happened during the time of Joshua when they fought against their enemies - the Amorites.

Joshua 10:
12 Then spake Joshua to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.
13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.
14 And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the Lord hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the Lord fought for Israel

God’s limitless power was displayed when He created the universe and all things contained therein (Genesis 1). His authority as a Creator prevailed when Joshua cried out to the Lord “...Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.” and things unimaginable happened. God is faithful enough to Joshua and his chosen nation to delivered them up in the hands of their enemies. I believed that this particular event literally happened because the bible told us so. God operates in the supernatural. It will not be too hard for the God who created the sun and moon to control it as He please. There is absolutely nothing that happens in the universe that is outside of God’s influence and sovereignty (Jeremiah 32:17).

We have been taught that the sun is the center of our solar system ever since we were young. According to NASA, the sun is fixed at the center and all the stars and planets revolved around it. I also believed this to be true for so long. Larry King interviewed Neil deGrasse Tyson, a well-known American astrophysicist, he was asked, “What would happened if the earth stopped rotating for a second?” Neil replied, “It will be disastrous! We are all moving with the earth 800 miles per second due east because we are rotating. If the earth stops moving, we will be flying 800 miles per second due east. It will kill everything on earth.” Clearly, this was not the series of events that took place during the battle of Gibeon. Simply imagine this, if the sun would stay up in the sky for long period of time it has to make the earth stop spinning. But, it also mentioned that the moon stayed in the valley of Ajalon. It could have caused a great catastrophe if we will not take the bible at its word. If earth is the one rotating around the sun, why did Joshua commanded the sun and the moon to stood still, not the earth?

In order to explain the event during Joshua’s time, we have to understand the behaviour of the earth, the sun and the moon. There were multiple passages of scripture that described the earth being fixed and not spinning. To mention a few Psalms 93:1b says, “... the world also is established, that it cannot be moved.” Likewise, 1 Chronicles 16:30 stated, “Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved.” From this verses alone, we can vividly demonstrate that the earth must be stationary and it is the sun, the moon and planets spinning around us.

Psalms 19:6 tells something about the course of the sun above, “His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.” We can draw from this verse that the sun is the one moving above the earth from end to end. Now we can have a perspective from the human point of view that God once again demonstrated His authority over his creation when He heard and granted Joshua’s request to make the sun stood still and the moon stopped from its courses above. It was wonderfully described in verse 14 “And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the Lord hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the Lord fought for Israel.” This miraculous power of God proved that He is able to do impossible things.

Conclusion:

God cannot do anything that would deny His character. He is the Creator of all things. There is nothing that is too difficult for Him. One thing is for sure, the day when the sun and moon stood still is a real event. We have to take the bible at its word. Understanding our universe in light of the bible should rule out what we know about modern science today.

Discovering Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

I’ve been married for almost two years now. We intentionally did not want to have a baby yet on our first year because we want to enjoy each company first as husband and wife. It’s pretty much such a good idea to be a wife first to your husband before becoming a mom. We have been preparing physically, mentally, spiritually and financially. For the longest time we’ve been talking to have a baby, now that we were married this dream is getting closer to reality. It’s every woman’s desire to be a wife to her husband and a mom to her child.

After a year in my married life, we finally decided to have our first baby. The excitement in me is overwhelming that I cannot contain it anymore. Our parents and friends are excitedly expecting my big announcement especially my husband. He is enthusiastically anticipating a two-line pregnancy result. At the back of my mind, I myself is also feeling the same way they do.

We’ve tried several attempts to conceive a baby but to no avail it is not being granted. I felt frustrated somehow. Especially seeing other woman carrying their own babies, or even encountering a pregnant woman. Then I asked myself, “What is wrong with me?” “Am I not deserving to be a mom?” or maybe “God is still working the best out of me!” I chose not to give up, never ever give up because at the end of the day it’s worth the wait. I am a child of God. I am redeemed. I am blessed. As my father-in-law encourage, “God, the Creator will you a child.”

My husband and I agreed to seek sound medical advice. We first visited an Obstetrician-Gynecologist. We shared to the doctor our situation and plans to have a baby. After a long discussion and counseling, the doctor wanted to confirm her finding regarding my present situation. She advise me to undergo Trans-vaginal ultrasound and Hysterosonosalpingography. At the same time, my husband has to undergo a Sperm Count and Analysis. Before we left the clinic, she gave us assurance that everything will be fine. As a matter of fact, there are lots of similar cases nowadays among woman.

According to Dr Monica Pahuja, "Transvaginal ultrasound is an examination of the female pelvis. It helps to see if there is any abnormality in the uterus (womb), cervix (the neck of the womb), endometrium (lining of the womb), fallopian tubes, ovaries, bladder or the pelvic cavity. It looks at the pelvic organs from inside the vagina using a special smooth, thin, handheld device called a transducer. This differs from an abdominal ultrasound, which uses a warm water-based clear gel applied to the skin of the abdomen and the transducer is moved gently across the pelvic area."

HSG result | The finding was there is no blockage in my fallopian tubes.

According to American Society for Reproductive Medicine, "Hysterosalpingography (HSG) is the radiographic evaluation of the uterus and fallopian tubes and is used predominantly in the evaluation of infertility. Other indications for HSG include the evaluation of women with a history of recurrent spontaneous abortions, the postoperative evaluation of women who have undergone tubal ligation or reversal of tubal ligation, and the assessment of patients prior to myomectomy. The primary role of HSG is in the evaluation of the fallopian tubes. Ultrasonography (US) is currently used for evaluation of the endometrium (ie, abnormal uterine bleeding, polyps) and pregnancy, whereas magnetic resonance (MR) imaging is used more in the evaluation of the uterine myometrium (i.e, uterine contour, myomas) and the ovaries. In our practice, however, the number of HSG examinations has increased dramatically over the past few years."

HSG result | The free fluid is present on the upper ultrasound.

We went back to our OB-Gyne with the laboratory result. I was diagnosed to have a PCOS or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I have no idea what is PCOS, but merely hearing the words of it – I felt anxious.  The Hysterosonosalpingography result was positive, meaning there was no blockage in my fallopian tubes. PCOS is a condition that is out of scope to OB-Gyne so we were referred to someone specializing in Reproductive Infertility.

Watch out for my next blog on dealing with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome in marriage.

Photoshoot Venue within Muntinlupa

Sunken Garden Muntinlupa | a nature-inspired sanctuary, perfect venue for photography within your reach

I am already engaged to my 7-year girlfriend - Johnna Marie and we are now planning for a wedding. We are now thinking and discussing to have at least some pre-wedding photoshoot before our best moment as of yet. For us, having this photoshoot sessions will serve as treasure that we can keep for life. A moment worthy to remember they say. These photos that can even be used in our wedding program, invitation and save-the-date teaser. We have participated to some wedding expo around to get ideas, talk to friends for suggestions, but who would have thought a nice friend of ours will come to us to offer a free shoot complete with all their concepts.

It was an ordinary working Friday when I received a message from Gabriel Ross inviting me - Johnna and I, to have some sessions with them. He and his team of five will be hosting us for a pre-wedding photoshoot in Sunken Garden Muntinlupa the following day. It was so urgent, I guess, that we don't have much time to prepare for stuff needed for the shoot. Good thing the concept of the shoot was so casual.

The 3D effect photo created and edited by Gabriel Ross. He was a graphic artist, photographer and adventurer. In fact, he was one of the photographer who documented my Mt. Batulao proposal climb to my girlfriend.

If you are wondering how to get to Sunken Garden in Muntinlupa simply follow this guide. For reference, we will be using Starmall Alabang as a starting landmark to the desired location. Take Manila South road to Bayanan until you see MMDA Poblacion Footbridge then turn right to Katihan road. This is approximately 7.6 kilometers in distance. Drive straight ahead to Insular Prison road, about 3.4 kilometers you will reach a slight turn to the left. Take the left turn to Sampaguita St. then you will notice a blue signage of Ina ng Awa Parish Church. The front side of the church is an ideal location for you to park your car.

You're always be beautiful in my eyes.

After a lunch break at SM Muntinlupa we proceeded to our next venue. Another great venue nearby is beside Jamboree Lake. You need to go back to Bilibid Road, then turn right to General Paulino Santos Avenue. You will immediately notice a way down to the Jamboree Lake where several nipa cottages were also available. Depending on your theme you can bring more clothes, accessories, props to make your final photos stand up. If you can tag along with a hair and make-up artist that will be advantageous. This is something that we missed. So make the most of your pre-wedding shoot.

Sigayan Bay Beach Resort | your pristine, charming city get-away destination

It is not too late to catch up for a summer-feel experience in the middle of the year. The scorching heat of the sun still lingers so going to the beach to take some vitamin-sea is a great idea. From Bacoor, Cavite we ventured around 122 kilometers of course to San Juan, Batangas. It usually take up to 3 - 4 hours drive via car, no need to worry since expressways connect the metro to the south. If you are not sure on how to go to your destination your ever-dependable navigator is Waze. This plan was initiated by my brother-in-law Mark and his wife LeahAmong a variety of options, we chose Sigayan Bay Beach Resort to be the most budget-friendly and perfect-fit for 20 head counts that is able to cater fully air-conditioned rooms with kitchen (plus free use of utensils, one gallon of water). Not to mention they are not imposing expensive corkage fee like other nearby resorts. Would you agree bringing your own food is cheaper and you could enjoy the food that you have prepared.

August 12, Saturday around 10:30 AM we left Bacoor, Cavite and headed straight to San Juan, Batangas. We traversed the long course of South Luzon Expressway starting from MCX to Calamba exit (Php 97.00), continue ahead until you've reach the entry point of Star Tollway at Sto. Tomas all the way to Ibaan exit (Php 53.00). Then turn left and drive for 2.5 kilometers until you reach the intersection with road sign pointing to Rosario, then we turned left on the intersection. Continue driving from San Juan road - Candelaria road then Laiya road which is approximately 22 kilometers then to Sigayan Bay Beach Resort. Friendly-reminder: the journey is quite long so keep your head cool and just enjoy. Should you decide to have some stop-over along the way maybe have some sip of kapeng-barako or enjoy a hot bulalo meal just allocate some ample time on your travel.

Once you arrived at the resort, you will be assisted by staff to transfer your stuff to your cottage or room. You will have to drop-by at their Information Center for proper check-in procedure. It will take about 5 - 10 minutes, then you will be provided with the key to your room. You will now have access to the several amenities with corresponding fees.

Night swimming.

There is no much activity and attraction during night time which is a good sign for some who wants a peaceful and quiet short vacation. After dinner perhaps some better way to spend the night is to grab some drinks while chatting with family and friends. Having fun is not prohibited but be mindful of other guests. Playing a loud music and creating a noise is being reprimanded by personnel on duty. Bringing board games like chess, scrabble or playing cards are must-have just to beat boredom.

August 13, Sunday - shortly after taking breakfast, we had our most exciting activity - it's snorkeling time. We were able to get discount for boat rental that only cost Php 1,000 good for 15 pax. The standard rate for snorkeling gear is Php 100/set. Friendly tip: if you can bring your own gagles, flippers, etc it can cost you less on rentals.

Play time with baby Kian, I am pretty sure this kid find happiness in the water. This is his first time swim in salty water.

Capture the moment with a groupie shot while waiting for others to join the snorkeling. Photo credit to Lanie Bulda.

You can walk on the shore on bare foot since it is not rocky. The sand is off-white in color and fine enough for a good beach experience. There is no barrier between adjacent resort so you can even walk along the entire length of the bay without any problem. There's a lot of vendors selling pearls, necklace, bean jelly (taho) and rice cake (suman).

On the way to snorkeling site. Photo credit to Lanie Bulda and Johnna Marie.

Approximately 10 minutes boat ride from the resort will take you to a fish sanctuary. Safety first, always wear your life vest. The water is clear bluish-green in color so its easy to see the coral reefs and sea floor below. The sea current is negligible and you will not notice it significantly. The school of fishes are well-diversed and colorful.

Snorkeling | Happiness comes with the waves.

This experience has many "first" personally. For me and my wife, this is our first time together to visit Laiya, Batangas and enjoy its marine flora and fauna. First time to go on a beach with Kuya Mac and Ate Leah. This is also Kian's first swimming experience and pretty seems he appreciate it alot. Overall, I can say that Laiya escapade was a fulfilling, memorable and satisfying near out-of-town adventure for couple and group. As a first-timer in Laiya, all is well as expectations were met it is not that white sand nor the crystal-clear water that you can compare to Boracay. Setting comparison aside, I highly recommend this destination for travelers. Given the distance from the metro, affordability and accessibility Sigayan Bay Beach Resort is a must-go place.

Wedding Proposal on Mt. Batulao 2

Thank you for still reading this simple blog. Don't miss the first part of this story, just in case you can click here instead. So let's continue . . .

Big "YES!" Moment

And so we are now on the final assault towards the summit so Brian, - the Team Leader of the group, decided to re-group the team and he intentionally set us - Daniel and Johnna to be on tail portion. This is the only time that we will trek together since I don't usually tail her in hiking. As a matter of fact, she climb vigorously than me. She is a fast-paced hiker while I am just an average one. The purpose is for the rest of the team to prepare for some stuff and to set up the stage, get the photographers ready, and do you remember that we will be having some singers performing? Fast-forward to the main event, Johnna and me were on our final assault to reach the Mt. Batulao summit. Cameras and phones will be on us once we show up, who cares about sweats and frizzy hairs. Let's get it on.

Mt. Batulao summit
The time when we reached the summit. It was intentional that I started at her back so when she turn to me, I am on one knee opening the ring.

Singers - Alex and Neil had a wonderful rendition of "A Thousand Years" during this moment. Kilig moment fills the air! This is a feeling of time stood still. The best moment ever on my entire mountaineering life. We actually talked about getting married all the time but she doesn't have any idea that it will be real soon. I practiced the words to say when I was on my knees, but it didn't come out just when I needed it. I've got blown away from the surrounding or maybe a lot of nervousness happening inside of me. When she saw the sign "Will You Marry Me?" she paused for several second before she said her "Yes!" Finally! Mission Accomplished.

Batulao proposal
"Time stands still
beauty in all she is
I will be brave
I will not let anything
Take away
What's standing in front of me
Every breath,
Every hour has come to this

One step closer.. "

And all along I believed
I would find you
Time has brought
Your heart to me
I have loved you for a
Thousand years

I'll love you for a thousand more ...
When she said Yes
Finally, she said "YES!"

To all may kasabwat, my heartfelt thanks to all of you. Because of your brilliant ideas and support this will not be possible.

For those who wanted to see the highlights of my wedding proposal to my then girlfriend, you can visit the beautiful blog made by my friend - Marge Ogena. She was able to wonderfully enumerated the events and people who helped me set up our surprise.

I am totally grateful that God allowed me to have friends that were supportive and you can always count on in times of everything. Kudos to all the members of Filipino Recreational Outdoor Group (FROG), friends, and workmates who joined us.  God Bless!
